Today, I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion as I sit down to pen these words a humble attempt to honor a man whose life has been a beacon of light, hope, and unwavering faith. Missionary Saji Mathew, a missionary who has faithfully served in Gujarat for the past 40 years, planting over 2,000 churches and impacting countless lives across generations. His dedication to the Kingdom of God is not just inspiring; it’s transformative.A Legacy Rooted in Love and Sacrifice
When we think of great leaders, we often imagine those who stand tall, commanding attention with their words and accomplishments. But Pastor Uncle’s greatness is different. His leadership isn’t defined solely by the number of churches he has planted or the ministries he has built. It’s defined by the way he loves, nurtures, and cares for those around him like a true father.
In my life, I’ve encountered many leaders, pastors, and organizations. Yet, there’s something profoundly beautiful about Pastor Uncle. He doesn’t just lead; he embraces. He doesn’t just guide; he walks alongside. His heart beats for the people he serves, not as mere followers, but as family. That’s why I love to call him “#Papa” a title that comes from the depths of my heart, though sometimes, I hesitate to say it aloud, perhaps held back by my own feelings of unworthiness.
But the truth is undeniable: he is more than a pastor to me. He is a spiritual father, a mentor, and a reflection of God’s unconditional love.
A Man of Unshakeable Faith Amid Personal Loss
As we celebrate Pastor’s birthday, I can’t help but remember the great loss he carries in his heart. Missionary Janet Saji Mathew, his beloved wife, was a warrior for Christ who served faithfully until her last breath during the pandemic. Her passing was not just a personal loss for Pastor Saji but a loss to the entire Body of Christ. Yet, even in the face of such grief, Pastor stood firm, unwavering in his mission, his heart anchored in the vision God placed within him.
I know her spirit watches over him, proud of the legacy they built together and cheering him on as he continues to fulfill the dreams they shared to see India transformed by the Gospel.
The Man Who Believed in Me
Last October marked a pivotal moment in my life when I surrendered my life to full-time ministry. I found my way to Pastor Saji through a dear sister in Christ, and that meeting changed everything. For the first time in my life, someone saw me, not just my flaws, not just my failures, but my potential, my dreams, and my heart.
As an entrepreneur with a dream I’d carried for 12 years, I had faced countless voices telling me it would never happen. Many labeled me inconsistent, doubted my calling, and dismissed my vision. But Pastor wasn’t like them.
He didn’t just listen; he understood.
He didn’t just accept me; he believed in me.
And when he said, “Sharon, we are with you,” those words sank deep into my soul. It was the first time someone outside my family loved me, believed in me, and stood by me with such fierce conviction.
Thank God for This Man of God
On this special day, I can’t thank God enough for the gift of Missionary Saji Mathew not just in my life but in our generation. His life is a testimony of what it means to live for Christ, to love like Christ, and to lead with the heart of Christ.
